Oxorin, the world in which Shattered Realms exists, is an ancient and vast world. It's been through hell and back, and its geography is very telling of this. There have been three major periods of note in Oxorin's history, and I'll be giving you a basic rundown here of each age.
Feudal Oxorin \ The Thousand Era Wars
The earliest records of Oxorin's history tells us that the land of Majoria knew no rest, ever since the primitive tribes of the lands first roamed, there was conflict. Ancient empires of the Sha'yune and of the Highborn clashed for dominance, creating two great empires spanning the whole of the land, the Highborn of Majorasil, and Oy'zara, primordial empires that have all but faded away.
After the gradual devolution of the Highborn into elves and men, the empire of Majorasil collapsed, forming the human tribes of the North, and the elven nation in the very center of Oxorin.
After great calamities struck the Oy'zarian Empire, they would fracture and crumble into a small state by the eastern sea, surrounded by ruins of an inconceivably ancient empire... their own. With the fall of Oy'zara, three whole factions arose, fully bringing on warfare between the races of the world, Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Sha'yune, Giants, Soulless, and Orcs. For many a century they bitterly fought each other, their boundaries growing and shifting constantly.
However, one attack by a primordial being would send them all into ruin...
The Domains of Oxorin / The Brink Saga
In the wake of the Void Collapse, an event which shattered Oxorin and sent it into a void known as the Brink, the races survived, but just barely, clinging on to whatever hope they dared dream. Left to squirm in the absence of the titanic being that wrought their doom, two alliances were formed, the Great Union, a nation of Elves, Dwarves, and Men, forming a democratic state for mutual benefit, and The Legion, a militaristic empire forged by the orcs, annexing the broken Giants of Gar'dor, the venomous Sha'yune of the broken Empire of Oy'zara, and the accursed Soulless of Blackhearth, the ones who begot Oy'zara's woes, united by force and an iron clad belief that only the strong will survive to the end.
It would not be until fifty years later that the races all met together, and when initial efforts to join together failed, a futile attempt to avoid conflict began, finally ignited by a lack of livable lands, starvation, crowding, and constant fear of the return of the Brink, finally relieved by the discovery of the Sacred Domain, the last uninhabited floating remnant of the planet available.
It was this discovery that sent the two factions into perilous warfare, battling to prove their superiority, claim new land, and enforce their beliefs.
All the while, the titanic being that wrought this chaos, planned their next move, eventually leading into a desperate apocalyptic war that would end with the total reset of the universe... the Third Primeval Era would begin, and Oxorin transformed.
In the present era, only vague remnants of the old days remain. Majoria and Candora, the last great human nations, fell into ruin at the mighty wrath of the Dragon War, after the hubris of man thought them too great to be defeated by wyrms (sadly proved wrong in one single onslaught), and as a result, their allies, the Dwarves of Gran Dom'orond were slaughtered as well, none left alive by the Black Dragon Ute'quera.
In the wake of the fall of the Great Kingdoms of Man, tiny fragmented and distrusting small kingdoms now dot the lands, and only the Elves and the Sha'yune truly remember the past. In the steamy jungles of the North, the Oy'zarian Empire makes a bid to return to its former glory, in the far south, the Orc Empire, the Legion, tells only fables of the days of the end of time, to the West, the Elves keep their ancient knowledge and secrets, and in the frontiers and fractured kingdoms of man, a plague of undeath and destruction by the lord of the dead, Death arrives.
Now only time will tell if the lands will be redeemed, or doomed to eternal ruin.
